Grade Cutoffs?

Postby Naomi Hernandez-Ramirez 1J » Tue Feb 16, 2021 9:19 pm

Im a bit confused with what Dr. Lavelle says that at least 50% is needed for a C-. Does anyone know what the grade cutoffs are for C's, B's, and A's?

I think that 50% for a C is just an exception.
For the other grades, you'd calculate them with the same scales as normal.
- I.e. -A is 360/400 points, A is 372/400

Hi! I had lavelle for 14A, 50% of points is a C or C- I believe and then just calculate the rest out of total points to get the percent or letter grade you are looking for.

Its relatively easy to get a C in this class just get 200 points. Literally full points on chem community 50, 50 on the sapling and you are already halfway there. Getting at least 33 points on every test will guarantee you the C- which is pretty cool considering that with a bare minimum its possible to get a bare minimum since most classes arent like that.

I think the 50% passing cutoff is just Lavelle being nice to us and not wanting us to fail. And then the other grade cutoffs are pretty standard scale as people mentioned above.

Normal grading curve for A and B, but C- extends down to 50%, so 200 points total are needed to pass the class out of 400 total.

Like many other classmates explain the cutoff if only special for the C-. Other letter grade cutoffs are as normal. A+=97-100, A=93-96.99, A-=90-92.99, B+=87-89.99, B=83-86.99, B=80-82.99. I hope this helps and again this helps a lot to ease the pressure!

From what I understand, you only need 200/400 points in the class to get a C-. However, if you are looking to earn a B- or better, then the grading scale is "normal". For example, to get a B-, at the very least you would need a 320/400.

I think the grading is on the standard system (A = 93%+, A-=90-92%, etc) but because it is a pre req for many majors it usually needs to be passed with a C- or higher so I think that that is what Lavelle means when he says that at least a 50% to get a C- and "pass".

I do believe that the other grade cutoffs are normal as they are (ex. 80-89% being a B). The C- being down to 200 points out of 400 is the only exception. Other than that, calculate your grade as you normally would.

The grade cutoffs are normal until C-, which extends to 50%. An A is 93+. A- is 90-93, etc.
