Final Exam

Is there going to be a final exam study guide or any review sessions that would be held this week?

I know that there will be a lot of office and ta hours and I think he might do what he did last semester with the last lecture being review but I'm not sure. He will probably send out an email soon!

Based on last semester, I don't think there'll be a study guide, but there will always be those outlines that you can study off of like a study guide.

Last quarter for 14A there were a lot of final review sessions that he urged us to go to on the last week so I'm sure it will be the same for this quarter.

Here is the link for this weeks review sessions:

For the final study guide, I would recommend looking at the outlines for the topics and make sure you can do problems related to the bullet points

Lavelle organizes review sessions throughout Week 10 so there is plenty of opportunities to review. For a study guide, the textbook problems listed on his website are a big help as well as the sections covered in the textbook.

Dr. Lavelle's review session is helpful and he's probably gonna explain some midterm questions.

There isn't a "study guide" exactly, but the closest thing to that would be the outlines that Lavelle provided for us. You can always check and see what topics you don't feel so confident about and review. Plus, there's always review sessions. Last quarter, Lavelle provided us with so many review sessions, it felt nice and helped many of us feel prepared. I'm sure the same thing will apply here.

I use the homework/syllabus outlines as a study guide and I've been keeping track of the problems that confused me throughout the quarter.

There are going to be a bunch of UA sessions for either general review or particular sections of the course. I definitely recommend going to as many as possible! Dr. Lavelle sent an email with all of the times a couple days ago.

I personally use the outlines as reference to what I should study for the final exam.

Are the final review sessions enough to do well? Or do you recommend going through all the outlines? How do we know which outlines are the most helpful for the exam?

I find the review sessions to be helpful, but I definitely think that you should still go over the outlines to ensure you do well on the exam. Typically the amount of questions for a certain topic/outline on the final equates to how long we’ve spent on a certain topic. So for instance, we can likely expect to see a good amount of thermodynamics questions since we spent quite a long time covering that topic. Ultimately, I would recommend reviewing all the outlines.

I don't think there is going to be a final exam study guide but there are many hours of review sessions during week 10.

For sure there will be review sessions. As for a study guide, it's basically the outlines!

Last quarter he put together a very thorough list of all of the different study review options for the different topics, so I think he's going to do that again for this week and we just need to wait for him to post it. If you want a study guide, go over the outlines he has for each topic and make sure you know everything he wants us to cover!

There are a lot of office hours and review sessions to attend. Check the 14B website for more but he also will probably send and email out early this week.

There are a whole bunch of review sessions during week 10, along with UA sessions! They're extremely helpful because you go over practice problems, which helps you review concepts that you need to know.

As announced several days ago I organized over 35 hours of review sessions starting Monday of Week 10.

As several students answered, see Learning Objectives and assigned problems in the Syllabus.

See my class website for extensive information on the above.

Dr. Lavelle has provided lots of hours of review sessions for the final exam as many of the workshops/step-up sessions and office hours have been changed to sessions focused on different outline topics.

The review sessions tend to be the most useful study tool for me. It forces you to look at the concepts you struggle with. Plus the other students there ask questions that I would not have even thought about asking prior. Last quarter these were great resources!

From my own study habits, I think that going over sapling is good in order to understand the concept as a whole. However, if you really want to practice the material I would suggest going over the problems from the syllabus and the outlines provide by the prof himself.

Dr. Lavelle usually sends out an email detailing all of the available resources for the week leading up to the final exam, so I'd definitely look into as many of those as you can. Additionally, Friday's lecture (March 12, 2021) is a review session so that's also something that's definitely worth a (re)watch. Best of luck on the final everyone!

just as an FYI if you're struggling with electrochem and/or kinetics, there's a great worksheet on chemistry community to review tougher concepts in those sections! just search "endgame" and there should be a thread that has the pdf!! it helped me a lot :)

good luck on the final everyone!! get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast in the morning :) you're all going to do amazing!

Are there any good acid/base problems from the textbook that people recommend reviewing?
