Atomic Spectroscopy

Postby JosephLew3C » Sun Oct 02, 2016 11:35 pm

When using the empirical equation En= - hR/(n)2 I'm confused as to why the energy level is being squared? Is it because it would make the outcome positive or would that not matter?

This would not make the outcome positive, seeing as only the denominator is being squared. The energy is squared because it happened to fit the experimental data that was observed.
