can someone describe what a wave function is and it's probability density? do we need to know it for the test?

The wave function is basically a math expression that holds information about an electron. It tells us the energy level (n), the angular momentum (l), and the magnetic quantum number (ml). The probability density is just the square of the wave function, and it tells us the probability that an electron will be found in that particular region. In regards to the test, it's likely that this is all we have to know (if we're even tested on it) since we didn't go super in-depth with this concept.
