Calculating Energy per Photon

Postby 805097738 » Wed Oct 09, 2019 9:38 am

How would you go about solving this:

Calculate the energy per photon of ultraviolet radiation of frequency 3.00 x 1015 Hz.

Which formula(s) would be used?

Because they already gave you the frequency, you can use E=Hf to find the energy, with h being planck's constant, and the frequency already being provided for.

You would use
Energy = (planck's constant) x (frequency) where planck's constant is 6.626 x 10^-34 J s. This should give you the energy per photon. Later on, a problem may ask you to find the energy per mole of photons. In that case, you may use avogadro's number to convert to per mole of photons instead of just per photon.

E = hv
E = (6.626*10-34 J*s) x (3.00*1015 Hz)
E = 1.99*10-18 J
