When going over atomic spectroscopy we discussed the Balmer Series for visible light and the Lyman Series for UV light. Do we also have to know the series that is associated with infrared light by name, or do we just have to know that there is one?
I had that same question! I think if we know the region of light the Balmer and Lyman series belong to and their energy levels we should be fine, since those were the only ones mentioned in the lecture. But I recommend knowing the name of the other one too just in case. (The Paschen series is the set of lines for the Infrared region and the lower energy level is n=3).
