Atomic VS Molecular Spectroscopy

At the end of Outline 2, Dr.Lavelle says that we should be able to “understand the difference between electronic transitions in atomic orbitals (atomic spectroscopy) and electronic transitions in molecular orbitals (molecular spectroscopy)” with respect to transitions that give rise to a UV or visible spectrum. I think he’s referring to the Lyman and Balmer series but honestly I am confused on what this statement means. If anyone might be able to explain it to me in simpler terms or direct me to a lecture/video he has that explains it then I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there are a couple concepts in that learning outcome: one is to understand that you can analyze the spectroscopy of both atoms and molecules, and the second is to understand the differences between Lyman and Balmer series, like how they each correspond to one region and energy level.
