Bohr's Equation and Hydrogen Atoms

Postby EriMizuguchi2K » Sun Oct 17, 2021 11:35 am

Hi,

I think I remember somewhere that Bohr's model can only be used when calculating the energy level of Hydrogen atoms? Is this correct, if not could someone explain how Hydrogen atoms relate to Bohr's model? Thank you!

Hi, yes this is correct. The Bohr equation can only be applied to hydrogen/atoms with one electron because it does not take into account electron-electron repulsion.

Yes you are correct, that the Bohr Model only applies to hydrogen, it is often called the Bohr Model of the hydrogen atom. This is because hydrogen has one electron, the model displayed the interaction of an atom with only one electron. If there was more than one electron things get more complicated between the charges (and we are currently learning about multi-electron atoms). Hope this helps
