When to Use the Bohr Equation

Postby Serene Liu 3H » Sun Oct 17, 2021 6:13 pm

Hi! I remember in lecture Dr. Lavelle said not to use the Bohr Equation
when we calculate energy changes when an electron moves to a different energy level (n), and to use the Bohr Frequency Condition E = -hR/n^2. However, in the Achieve homework some of the solutions tell us to use this equation so for the test, what should we use? Does it matter when we use either?

Hi,
I believe the first equation you stated is not calculating the amount of energy and is instead calculating the frequency or being used to find the wavelength. The homework questions that refer to this equation I believe are asking for wavelength and frequency not the energy.
