H-Atom Degeneracy

Postby Yajing Feng 2J » Fri Dec 03, 2021 11:53 pm

Can someone explain the biological significance of degeneracy in the hydrogen atom?

Hi, looking at the definition of degeneracy, it is defined as the same energy. Taking that into consideration when looking at hydrogen, every subshell in the same energy level will be degenerate. This is due to there being no electron-electron repulsion countering the pull of the nucleus (since there is only one electron).
