Torsional strain and stability

Postby Chem_Mod » Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:07 pm

Question: If the torsional strain of a molecular structure is higher, then does that make it more stable? Can you please give a better definition and apply it to some examples?

Answer: It is only more stable while in the stable conformation. In other words the opposite is also true, the greater the torsional strain the more unstable the unfavored conformation.
