Multiple correct Fischer and perspective projections okay?

Postby Chem_Mod » Tue Aug 30, 2011 2:10 am

Question: For Fischer and perspective projections, since there is more than one correct structures, are different structures accepted as a correct answer? Also is it assumed to draw out these projections in the most stable form or would you have to specifically state to do so?

Answer: For a given enantiomer there are several correct answers. All will be treated equally. If you are asked to draw a fischer projection of an R stereocenter, simply check that the structure you have drawn is in fact R. You may be asked to draw the most stable conformation of a molecule in the form of a Newman projection. Fischer projections don't show the conformation of a stereocenter.
