monoprotic acid

Postby Kailyncanez3G » Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:43 am

How do you know when a monoprotic acid is either charged/ neutral/ unknown by looking at the reaction and conjugate base? What do I specifically need to look at to begin ?

If I understand your question, then see if the conjugate base has a negative charge of 1. If it does, then the H+ balances it out and the monoprotic acid is neutral.

If the monoprotic acid is charged, then it should be indicated in the chemical formula. For example, NH4+ is written with the plus to indicate its charge. If the NH4+ is an acid, then its conugate base will carry that charge still.
