Photoelectric effect

Can someone please explain the photoelectric effect?
I understand that when the ultraviolet radiation source hits the metal with enough intensity the electrons jump off.
- the shorter the wave=higher frequency
- further, increasing intensity= increasing photons
The real question is if the threshold equals or is the same as the kinetic energy??

Threshold energy and kinetic energy are not the same. From my understanding of it, threshold energy is the energy that is required to remove an electron from the metal. Also, if the threshold energy is exceeded, the electron is ejected with more kinetic energy. So that is essentially the equation E(photon)-E(energy remove e)=E(kinetic). It is saying that the energy is always equal on both sides, so if there is extra threshold energy there is more kinetic
