Periodic Table information for final

Postby JAC_2016 » Thu Dec 01, 2016 7:41 pm

For the final, do we only need to know the s block, p block, and first row of the d block, or is there more that we need to know? Because the midterm included elements that weren't in the first row of the d block but the course reader says that we only need to know the first row of the d block.

My midterm covered elements from the s block, p block, and first row of the d block.

"Because the midterm included elements that weren't in the first row of the d block"
What midterm question did this?

For Q4D, it asks for the ground-state electron configuration for Pb2+. I see that it isn't in the d-block but it's configuration included an element that contained the f orbital. Actually can you explain how to get the ground-state electron configuration for Pb2+?

Pb is in the p-block.

Pb2+:
highest energy 2e- in the p-block are removed
6th row of periodic table (6s2)
d run one row behind (5d10)
f run two rows behind (4f14)

Pb2+: [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s2
