Did Dr. Lavelle ever mention that he is going to make the tests and midterms worth less if the class average is pretty low?

He is not going to make it worth less, but he will curve the class at the end depending on how everyone does out of 500 points.

From my understanding, the scores themselves are not curved. However, based on the total grades at the end of the quarter, course grades will be adjusted accordingly.

He makes it to where 50% is a C and then he adjusts other grades accordingly, but I don't think that there is a set scale for what an A is.

If you score 250/500 points overall, you will automatically get a C-. If you score more than that, there is no curve and your science corresponds with the matching letter grade.

In his syllabus, Lavelle says that he sets a C- at a 50% in the class (raw score). He doesn't make the scale for what qualifies as an A or B until after the final exams are graded. Each exam isn't curved, but the entire class is. Hope this helps :)

Does that mean that people who got Fs and Ds will have the exact same grade as people who actually got C-s. Or will the people who got C-s have slightly higher grades?

In order to pass the class you need at least 250/500 points to pass with a C-. The rest of the grades as far as A's and B's I believe will be graded on a curve dependent on the overall/average score of students.

I think that the grades get curved after inputing the final and assessing the final grade. Also, I have heard that he doesn't necessarily always curve the class, for example if everyone does well on the final.
