In organic molecules, how do we know if there is an "implied" Hydrogen?

Hi,

For the example he showed in class (NH2CH(CH3)CH2CH2COOH), you can determine whether there is an "implied" hydrogen by counting the number of bonds. For example, if a carbon was at the peak of the line structure, and connected to two lines (2 bonds), you can infer that it has two other hydrogens because carbon has four bonds.
