Re: curve
I don't think so because the syllabus does not say anything about the class being curved. Here's the syllabus, and the grade breakdown is on page 2.

Re: curve
I live with two other girls who have taken this class before me. Unfortunately, they told me that 14A with Lavelle was not curved for them / there was no extra credit offered at the end of the course. Luckily though, we have a lot of time to prepare for the final exam, and as Lavelle reiterates, there are lots of resources for us to use if we are struggling. Best of luck preparing for the final in the upcoming future, and I hope you get a chance to relax a bit since our midterms for this class are finished (:

Re: curve
I am quite certain Professor Lavelle does not curve this class, although someone in a chat mentioned something about adjusting grades at the end of the quarter and I was confused about it, so if anyone knows anything about that lmk!
The point distribution in this class can be pretty tough. Especially considering exams are all multiple choice.

Re: curve
I did hear something about him sometimes adjusting the grades at the very end of the class depending on what the average is/how the class did. I'm really hoping because of the online format and all MC and lack of partial credit, there is a slight adjustment to make an A a 90 or 91 or something.

Re: curve
Some of my classes in the past also mentioned that there would be a curve at the end in order for there to be a certain percentage of students to get an A and a B in the class but I highly doubt he will be doing that in this class.

Re: curve
I don't think the professor curves the grades but my grade on this class is sure hoping he does.

Re: curve
My TA told me that grades are adjusted/curved at the end of the quarter depending on the overall distribution. But that nothing has been determined yet, it really depends on how students perform on the final. There is no pre-determined "cut-off" for an A, it can vary, it just depends on the grade distribution at the end of the quarter. So everyone keep working & studying hard, hopefully everything will work out!

Re: curve
Based on what I've heard from previous students, he uses a straight scale with no curve. But I heard he doesn't downcurve at least!

Re: curve
I don't think anything is curved for the course since the syllabus has a point system breakdown. Good luck on the final :)

Re: curve
I don't think this class is curved, but there might be some readjustments to the grading scale at the end of the quarter once grades are finalized. Hope we hear more information about this soon!

Re: curve
I heard that there is really no chance of a curve in this class. I really hope he doesn't consider a downcurve.

Re: curve
The final exam is not curved, however, due to the difficulty and time limitation of the exam Dr. Lavelle has decided to add on 10 points to every student’s exam.

Re: curve
I have a friend who TA'd for this class and said that this course is never curved. Like other students have posted, the syllabus also lacks any information or mention of anything about curving the final scores.
