Grading Scale Chem 14A

Postby NayeliPlayas_1L » Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:39 am

On the syllabus it says we need 50% or higher to pass the class with a C- or higher. Would a 90% account for an A-, 78% for a C+, and so on?

I believe my TA said it depends on what the class average ends up being. So we would have to wait until the end of the quarter to see what grading "curve" he decides on, but that could be wrong.

I'm not exactly aware of how this grading curve works. Can someone please clarify because I thought the points we earned individually was the only thing that was being factored into grading.

Yeah I do not think this class is curved. You need a raw scre of 90% to get an A.

I was also confused on the grading scale because I also saw that in the syllabus. Does anyone know what the in between grades are if a C- is 50%? Like what is the percentage gap between a B+ to a B- ?

So a 90% will not be an A-, it will be an A?

I thought we didn't have a curve since people in groupme said like we can only miss a total of 17 points to maintain an A in the quarter.

Oops I meant A-, 94% is an A and 97% is A+. My bad.

Considering that this class has a total of 500 points according to the syllabus, missing 17 points max is to maintain an A+, not an A.

Yeah I think Lavelle said there wasn't a curve, at least from what I can remember!

I believe there is no curve, but the only grading exception is that a 50% is deemed as a C- for passing.
