I usually try to create a study guide that's compiled of both lecture notes and any notes from the textbook. I mostly use the textbook and sapling for problems and for extra help I sometimes attend UA sessions. For things that need further clarification I try to watch youtube videos that will help.

The textbook! Could not emphasize this enough. Read through the topics that we have covered in lectures, taking extra notes that seem important, and solve the problems assigned from the outline in the syllabus! I found that focusing on these is helpful.

I usually go through the sections in the textbook that are covered in class and take notes on it. The information is repeated and at the same time you get another explanation of the main concepts. I usually make a quizlet from the notes I took from the lectures and the textbook and use that to review the concepts before the finals/midterms.

For some additional practice, I would recommend trying some of the textbook problems that are in the same section but are not assigned. For the answers, you may be able to search the question to find students from past years discussing the solutions on chemistry community :)

I've heard that Organic Chemistry Tutor on youtube is really helpful for reviewing specific topics!

If you have other friends who are taking the class or a class similar to this, I would recommend trying to explain the topics on the outlines to them. If you can explain a topic well enough that someone can understand what you're talking about, then you'll know that your understanding is where it needs to be. If they start asking questions that you can't answer or get stumped by, then you'll have a better idea of what to brush up on!

Go to the UA sessions, they help! I like going to hannahs session, shes super nice and really helpful. I also read the textbook just to fimilarize myself with the material again . After all that, I practice textbook problems.

What I like to do is review some of the topics discussed in lectures by watching some videos that cover and explain some of the things in greater detail.

What I try to do is the week before the exam I will attempt to summarize all the information that will be on the exam but limit it to 1-2 pages so that I have all the important information and then I reference that throughout the week to try to familiarize myself with it as much as possible. I also will make sure that all the points in lesson outlines on Dr. Lavelle's website are covered in my review sheets.

Other than the textbook and sapling, the workshops and step up sessions are really helpful. It's a nice review if you're already somewhat familiar with the material but want a bit more practice or have questions. You can access the worksheets again later for more studying too from the google drive.

Hi! Great question. I agree with others; these are all really good tips! I think going to as many sessions as possible really helps you get more acquainted with the topics we're learning. Also, I also compile study guides for myself based on the textbook and my Discussion/Lecture Notes while I review those. I hope this helps! Good luck.

I have also heard that watching YouTube videos (such as Organic Chemistry tutor) on topics that you are struggling with helps to grasp the concepts from the outlines. Hope this helps!

For the final I will definitely be attending the review sessions held by the TAs and UAs. If any of them are recorded then I might rewatch them before the exam.

I usually go to my TA's office hours and ask them about reviewing my past midterms. I usually can learn a new technique or perspective when solving a problem during office hours.

UA Sessions are SUPER helpful, HIGHLY recommended!!! I would also recommend the review session Professor Lavelle recently organized.

The review sessions and the UA workshops would be helpful for the final. Dr. Lavelle sent an email with times for all the review sessions, step-up sessions, and other resources to help us for the final.

Definitely go to all the review sessions you can that Dr. Lavelle has set up. The UA workshops have been such a great resource for me, and provide even more practice problems for the future. Also, I catch myself doing this a lot so don't just practice the stuff you know. It's super easy and comfortable to go through practice problems you know inside and out. Really challenge yourself to work through those ones you dread and it'll help tremendously! Also, whenever I go to the UA sessions I normally wait a few days, cover up the answers with a sheet of paper and try to do the problems myself again! It's really a good measure of what you know. Hope this helps!

For me, I usually make sure that I fully understand all the lectures so that I have a strong foundation. Then, a week or two before whatever exam we have, I usually would go through textbook problems and work out every single one listed and review sapling.

Something I find helpful for conceptual questions is going back through those learning outcomes sheets on the chem 14A Lavelle website and making sure I not only understand but can explain the list of concepts on the bottom and actually have a grasp of what they mean and how they can be applied.

I've found it helpful to take questions already given from sapling or the textbook and then think of all the possible ways they could be reworked and given on the exam. I like to make new questions from these given questions in order to test my overall knowledge of a concept.

It’s important to have a system, with one part for learning the material and the other for consolidating it. I recommend reading the textbook to learn the material and then watching the lectures to consolidate your understanding and learn some helpful tips.
