Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
Is calculating wavelength and calculating the De Broglie wavelength the same thing?

Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
Yes, technically both are determining wave length. The De Broglie wavelength just relates wavelength to speed.

Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
It's important to remember though that De Broglie can only be used with particles because they have mass, so it's not applicable to light.
Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
Not necessarily because De Broglie cannot be used for light but it can be used for things with mass.

Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation [ENDORSED]
De Broglie's equation only applies to objects with mass. So, it does not apply to light because photons don't have a mass.

Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
Both formulas are calculating wavelength, but De Broglie's equation only applies to certain things, specifically objects with mass, so not to light, because light doesn't have mass. The wavelength equation, on the other hand, can calculate the wavelength of both objects with mass and of light.

Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
Avoid using De Broglie when it comes to light, only when mass comes up.
Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
If this equation doesn't relate to light then what wavelength is it calculating?

Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
The De Broglie equation is just another way of calculating wavelength, but there are also other ways.
Re: Wavelength and De Broglie Equation
Well, yes however you would use the De Broglie equation when its referring to mass as well.
