It's used to calculate the wavelength using the Planck's constant(h) and the mass of the particle (m).

DeBroglie's equation calculates the wavelength of any particle with wavelike properties and that have mass
lambda=Plack's constant(h)/(mass*velocity)

So would this mean that mass is always inversely related to wavelength for those particles with wave like properties?

I believe that's correct.

given the mass and the velocity you can use the DeBroglie equation to figure out the object in motion's wavelength. This is useful when you are attempting to figure out the wavelength of a particle or a body of mass.
