Units for DeBrogile Equation

Postby Savannah Torella 1L » Sun Nov 01, 2020 9:40 pm

What are all the units that should be used when a value is being calculated with the DeBrogile equation? I kept mixing my units up during Sapling problems.

Wavelength in meters
Mass in kg
velocity in m/s

I put in the wrong units many times and now I can finally remember it. The unit for mass is different from when we calculate the molar mass stuff. It is kilograms. And velocity should be in m/s.

Mass=kg
Velocity=m/s
Wavelength=meters

For this equation, and the majority of other equations, you would use SI Units. So kg for mass, meters for wavelength, and meters per second for velocity.

J x Sec for planks constant. m/s for velocity and meters for position (x)

For the DeBroglie Equation:

Mass=kilograms(kg)
Velocity=meters per second(m/s)
Wavelength=meters(m)

The only real exception to standard units is kg for mass, so as to cancel Joules properly (kg^2 m^2 / s^2).

Mass would be measured in kilograms, while velocity would be in meters per second, and wavelength would be measured in meters.

When you use the De Broglie equation, the units are meters (m) for wavelength, kilograms (kg) for mass, and meters per second (m/s) for velocity.
