Learning Objective - Describe the interpretation of atomic orbitals in terms of probability.

Postby Alexa Marinelli-1B » Tue Oct 19, 2021 1:43 am

I was filling out this learning objective and I noticed that there was a post on it already. When I was reading it one of the responses said to "demonstrate that you understand that orbitals are essentially "areas of electron probability." I'm unsure of what this person was trying to say, if someone could elaborate further I would greatly appreciate it.

We don't know exact positions of electrons, but the square of the wave function does give the probability of finding an electron.
