HW - #14

Postby Alexa Marinelli-1B » Tue Oct 19, 2021 4:56 pm

My prompt for #14 is: What would the speed of each particle be if it had the same wavelength as a photon of red light (lambda =750.0 nm)? I was able to calculate the first three speeds but I'm having difficulty figuring out the last one (alpha particle (mass=6.645×10−24 g)). I keep getting 1.3 x 10^-1. I'm not sure why this is wrong because I calculated it the same way I calculated the first three. I converted nm to m, g to kg, and used the formula v = h/mlambda. Please let me know if there is an obvious mistake I'm missing, thank you.

Hi! I did the calculations and I got the same thing as you.

Make sure you are in putting all correct values into the equation and reading the problem statement, for example ur question says 750nm but mines says 450nm so double-check, so make sure you properly converted it to meters and properly converted it to kg.

you should be getting 6.626x10^-34 divided by (6.645×10−27 kg times 7.5x10^-7m)=velocity

Hi, thats the current set up that I have, which is giving me 1.3 x 10^-1 and I keep getting that its incorrect.

check how you are in putting that into your calculator, be careful with parentheses, and see if the final answer is asking for nm or just m

I found my problem on this question to be parentheses. Be careful when entering them into your calculator especially when inputting the powers of 10.
