Question about units in De Brogiles Equation and the Heinsberg Uncertainty Equation

Postby Carina H - 2G » Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:07 am

Hi!

Just double checking, when calculating momentum in both de brogiles and heinsberg uncertainty equations, the mass must be in kilograms, right? Or do we just leave mass as grams? I know that for the kinetic energy = .5(m)(v^2), mass is in kilograms so I wanted to check for the other equations. Thanks!

Kg is the units for this type of problem.

The unit for mass should be in kg.

Since in both those equations you are dealing with momentum which units are kg*m/s, the mass must therefore be in kilograms.

hi yes it will be kg because you're dealing with momentum which your mass will end up having to be converted into kg

When calculating momentum, use kg for the units for mass and m/s for velocity and you should be all set to solve the problem. Hope this helped!
