Clarification on Deprotonation of H2SO4 (Jaden's Workshops)  Topic is endorsed

Postby Chem_Mod » Wed Jan 25, 2023 12:55 am

Hi everyone,

This is Jaden and to everyone who attended my workshop on Monday, 1/23, and Tuesday, 1/24, I made an incorrect statement about the deprotonation of H2SO4 in solution. When you are calculating the pH of H2SO4 in solution, you must add the H3O+ concentration from the first deprotonation and the H3O+ when HSO4- deprotonates IN THE HSO4- ICE TABLE. Only then can you take the -log of the combined H3O+ concentration to get the correct pH value.

I have posted my Workshop 1 and 3 Answer Keys and Workshop 2's answer key will be up Wednesday night. I hope this helps all of you conceptually as we close out on acids and bases! Good luck studying and I hope to see more of you in my Midterm workshop next week!

Please take a look at this as I have updated my answer key to my Week 2 Workshop.
