In 1.B.27,the question says: a bowling ball of 8 .00kg is being rolled down an alley lane at 5.00 +/- 5.0 m/s. what is the minimum uncertainty in its position?
For uncertainty in velocity (delta v), would it be 10 or 5? I thought it would be 10. because the range is from 0-10, however the solutions book seems to be using 5.

The uncertainty in velocity would be 10 in this case because it is vfinal-vinitial. I'm assuming there's a typo in the solutions manual?

This is a typo: On the website you can find the typo and the correction: "1B.27
Solution manual states Δv = 5.0 m.s-1
Velocity was given as 5.00 ± 5.0 m.s-1
Therefore Δv = 10.0 m.s-1
With the correction, the final answer is: Δx = 6.7 x 10-37 m"
Solution manual states Δv = 5.0 m.s-1
Velocity was given as 5.00 ± 5.0 m.s-1
Therefore Δv = 10.0 m.s-1
With the correction, the final answer is: Δx = 6.7 x 10-37 m"

I agree that the uncertainty in velocity would be 10 because you multiply by two when there’s a ± because that represents the range of values that the speed could be. Yep it's 10 and not 5! There was an earlier post or correction clarifying that the solutions manual has the wrong answer

yeah it's 10 not 5. I googled this question and found a 2017 post on chemistry community where Chem_Adm confirmed this. There's also a section on Dr.Lavelle's website that includes all the textbook corrections. You can also refer to that! Hope this helps!

The uncertainty in velocity is the range since its 5 and the uncertainty is +/-5, You would add 5+5=10 minus 5-5=0. 10-0=10, so your deltaV is 10.
