Today in Lavelle's review, he said that we know the electron cannot be inside the nucleus of an atom because the calculated uncertainty in the velocity was greater than the speed of light. Why are we comparing it to the speed of light? Also, if it were smaller than 3x10^8, could it then be found inside the nucleus?

Since no particles can travel faster than the speed of light, it makes no sense that a particle with mass (ie. electron) would be able to travel faster than the speed of light.

Electrons are never found in the nucleus even if the uncertainty in velocity is less than the speed of light. That being said I don't think there is a case where this is ever possible because heisenbergs uncertainty principle would likely always show that an electrons velocity uncertainty is more then the speed of light if the uncertainty in position is confined in the nucleus.
