Given Values in the Equation

Postby SerenaSabedra » Wed Oct 20, 2021 3:35 pm

Hey, I was curious to know if we will always be given the uncertainty of at least one of either position or momentum? Or if there will ever be a time we need to find it another way? Thanks!

I believe at least one of the uncertainties should be given (either , , or ).

We might not be given the uncertainty directly, but we should be able to figure out one of the uncertainties.

For instance if the position is given as 10 +- 2 meters, the uncertainty is 4 meters.

We cannot solve this equation () without anything given since there are two unknown variables.

We will therefore always be given one variable, either the uncertainty in position or in velocity (for momentum, if momentum is not provided).

because the mass will probably be provided within the problem or on the equation sheet, we should be provided with all but one of them which we then solve for

I believe we will only have one variable to solve for, so they should give us all of the others.

I am pretty sure that we will always be given all but one of the variables, or at least values that will allow us to calculate missing variables.
