I wanted some clarification one how d-orbitals contribute to the unique properties of transition metals?

Partially filled d-orbitals, allow for variable oxidation states, the formation of complex ions, and the display of magnetic and catalytic behaviors. Additionally, electronic transitions within d-orbitals lead to the characteristic colors of many transition metal compounds.
