Orbital Nodes

Postby Patrick Wilson 2B » Fri Oct 07, 2016 12:49 pm

How many nodes does the s orbital have ?

When using the equation:
Nodes= n - l - 1

What does the varivale l stand for ?

There are four nodes total (5-1=4) and there are two angular nodes (d orbital has a quantum number ℓ=2) on the xz and zy planes. This means there there must be two radial nodes.
