How do you determine how many nodes are in each subshell? Is there an equation to determine the amount of nodes per each orbital?

There are two types of nodes: angular nodes and radial nodes. Angular nodes are surfaces where there is no electron density, and radial nodes are spherical shells where there is no electron density. In order to determine the number of nodes total the equation would be n-1. The number of angular nodes is equal to l. To determine how many radial nodes there are, the equation would be n-l-1.

How many nodal planes are in the p orbital?

The p orbital has 1 nodal plane since l = 1. It looks like an hourglass, with the nodal plane through the center.
