Values of m1 orbitals

I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on how to find how many (and what) values of m1 are allowed for an electron for a specific sub-shell.

For example, on #2.19b, it asks for the values of m1 for a 6d subshell. A d-orbital would have 5 orbitals and thus have 5 values for m1(-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3).
So, we were to find the values of m1 for a 7s subshell, would you only take into consideration of the "s" subshell, where a s-orbital has 1 orbital and thus would only have 1 value for m1(0)?

The easiest way I have found to do these is to go through each quantum number step by step.
Given 6d you know that n=6 and because it is d l=2. The values of ml allowed range from -l to l, therefore a 6d sub shell would have values -2,-1,0,1, and 2 (5 values).
Then, for 7s following the same process n=7 and l=0. The only value for ml is 0.
