Orbitals

When asked what orbital an electron belongs to, would you answer, with just just s, p, d, or f, or would you have to specify the subshell as well? (for example, 4s, 3p, etc.)

I would go with the more specific answer with the principle quantum number in front of the letter.

I agree with Ryan. Just in case, I would specify the subshell.
