Lobes

Postby Connie2I » Sat Dec 09, 2017 10:45 am

When is it necessary to take the lobes of an orbital into account? For example, using px, py, and pz.

When it comes to lobes I think we just need to understand their shape when it comes to bonding (i.e. pi bonds).

Do the lobes of an orbital dictate the exact location of where an electron may appear, or the general area of where it can be found?

We use lobes to know the general shape of the potential pathway of an electron.

I think we also need to know which axis each lobe lays on.
