Difference between wave function and probability density

Postby Jonghwee Park 1K » Sun Apr 22, 2018 11:48 pm

Can someone tell me the difference between wave function and probability density? I read the textbook definitions, but I can't totally grasp the difference and understand why the probability density is important.

A wave function is a math function used to model a particular state of an electron.

The wave function squared is a representation of the probability density, the probability profile showing the likelihood of finding an electron in a particular region.
