2.17 How many orbitals are in subshells with l equal to (a) 0; (b) 2; (c) 1; (d) 3?

Hi, I'm not sure how to figure out the number of orbitals using the information given of l. I couldn't attend lecture on wednesday so I am a bit behind with the new chapter

m labels the different orbitals of a subshell and its allowed values are l to -l by decrementing l by 1 every time in between (Professor Lavelle did talk about this on Wednesday, so it makes sense that you're confused). So for a), l = 0 and m can only be 0, so there is 1 orbital. In b), l = 2 so m = 2, 1, 0, -1, and -2, so there's 5 orbitals. Hopefully this helps!
