What does it mean when 2 electrons are parallel? And what does it mean when 2 electrons are paired?

When two electrons are parallel, both will be having the same spin or both going up/going down. When two electrons are paired, they will have opposite spins, one going up and one going down.

If two electrons are in the same orbital they will always have opposite spins (they will be paired). If they are in two different orbitals they can have the same spin (be parallel). Electrons in the same shell, sub-shell, and orbital will never be parallel- they must have opposite spin values because it is impossible for two electrons in the same atom to match for all four quantum numbers.
