In class the professor was talking about different orbitals and whether or not they have nodes or nodal planes. I understand which orbitals have them, but I don't actually understand what they are or what having them means.

A node is a point where the electron probability is 0. It's basically a region in a space where the wavefunction passes through. Hope this helps!
