Quantum numbers

If n=4 l=3 and ml=-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3 where is the electron located? would the correct answer be 4f?

The electron is located in 4f.

Could someone explain how to determine where the electron would be located based off of this information?

The way to figure it out from my understanding is that 4 is the energy level it is in (the principle quantam number n equals 4 in this case) and f is determined by what l is equal to. In this case, the value of l, which is 3, corresponds with the the l value for the f orbital. Thus the answer, if put together, would be 4f.

Yes, the answer would be 4f. You know this because n is always the first number, and in this case n=4. Then, looking at l=3 we know it has an f-orbital. Therefore it would be 4f.

Yup! It's 4f because n=4 and l=3 which refers to the f block
