I don't think we need to know how to solve Schrodinger's wave function equation or do any calculations with it. However, we do need to know how to identify orbitals and the relationship of them to the different quantum numbers.

We don't need to know how to solve wave functions because that goes into double derivatives and some complex math. The main concept you have to know about wave function is how it relates to the quantum numbers. Schrodinger's wave function gives rise to the three quantum numbers n, l, and ml. We just have to know the connection between quantum numbers and wave function.

Im confused, is a wave function defined by its quantum numbers? If not, what is the relation between wave functions and quantum numbers?

I think it's the other way around. Through the wave functions and Schrodinger's equations, you are able to get the quantum numbers for each electron in an atom (n, l, m(l)). However, Lavelle has said we won't be doing Schrodinger's for this test.
