Hi,
I know that the p subshell has 2px, 2py, and 2pz orbitals, what specific orbitals would the f subshell have?
Thanks!

Re: Subshells/Orbitals
Although I'm not entirely sure which SPECIFIC orbitals the f subshell would have, I do know that it should have 7 orbitals.
(s=1 orbital, p=3 orbitals, d=5 orbitals, f=7 orbitals)

I don't think we need to know the specific shapes of the f orbitals, we just need to know that it has 7 different orbitals which hold a total of 14 electrons.

I think we just have to know the general idea of what the f-orbital entails, not the specifics of it.

Here's an image of the f-orbitals. As previously mentioned I don't think you'll need to know what they are, just know that they have 7.

Re: Subshells/Orbitals
How do you know which element the electron configuration is, if it is written as x,y, and z?
