How many orbitals are present in the (a) 4p-subshell; (b) 3d-subshell; (c) 1s-subshell; (d) 4f-subshell of an atom?

I'm confused. This question is asking for the orbitals, but the solutions manual gives me the number of electrons in the orbitals. Am I missing something?

The manual just gives the orbitals. You may have been looking at a different solution.

I believe that might have been looking at the wrong problem, but you should come up with the answers as
a)3
b)5
c)1
d)7

If you need it, here's an image to help visualize the process of determining orbitals
