Homework up to Q19 and Midterm 1

Postby Nicoli Peiris 1B » Wed Oct 21, 2020 4:32 pm

So in the email Dr. Lavelle sent out he said the midterm covers up to question 19 in the homework and that midterm one material ends with today's lecture. But in the homework some question like questions 11,13,15-18 that all deal with quantum numbers or material we have not covered in class. Is this in the midterm? The material in today's lecture covers a bit of the orbital material but I'm a bit confused because apparently the midterm covers this lecture but not this orbital part? I'm so confused with what is covered! If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!!!

I am confused about this as well. I hope it is not on the midterm because he hasn't gone over anything other than the very basic descriptions of the levels, but I am not sure.

Midterm 1 covers material up to Wednesday of Week 3 (today).
This is up to Q19 in Sapling (quantum) homework.
In Outline 2 below, all topics except the last 8 listed.
MT 1 is to the end of 1D.2 in textbook.

Quantum numbers, s, p, d-orbitals, etc., are not on MT 1.

See class Announcement at: https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/class-websites/chem14a/

Here is the Sapling homework, last 4 questions, Q16-19:

These questions do not cover quantum numbers, orbitals, etc.

Yes my lecture, towards the end, did some s, p, d orbital pictures but not included on MT1.

I am wondering if sapling is not in the same order for everyone because some of my questions 1-19 do cover material we have not yet learned such as quantum numbers and some questions past 19 cover material that we have learned such as DeBroglie. Is there anyway that a list of the specific questions that do not pertain to the midterm can be posted somewhere?

I am experiencing the same thing. My question 19, along with others, is not the same as the one in the picture above, which is weird because most are in the right order and I can usually look for help on a specific problem by stating what number. I don't know why that is, so I'm going to try to do any questions that look familiar, even if I have to skip around.

The topics are listed on my class website:

Outline 2: The Quantum World

https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... _World.pdf

For MT 1 omit the last 8. See detailed email I sent to class.

Screenshot of email I sent Sapling tonight:

Hopefully this is fixed asap.

Please use Outline 2 to see MT1 topics.

As of now the error has not been fixed in terms of the randomization. It also seems there are no randomizer options from our end.
