Schrodinger's Wave Function Equation
Will we ever need to make calculations using the Schrodinger's wave function equation? Or will we only need it to describe atomic orbitals?

Re: Schrodinger's Wave Function Equation
I think the main point of Schrodinger's wave function equation is how it helps describe atomic orbitals. I remember it being a double derivative but other than that I'm pretty sure there was nothing else calculation-based he went over.
Re: Schrodinger's Wave Function Equation
Pretty sure Schrodinger's Wave Function is just used as a way to better understand and conceptualize atomic orbitals.
Re: Schrodinger's Wave Function Equation
I think the most we need to understand about the Wave Function is conceptual; ie how it was used to generate a mathematical model (not actual) for the probability of electron density, and (because its 3D) its outputs generated the n, l, and ml quantum numbers. It thus can be synonymous with what we refer to as electron orbitals.

Re: Schrodinger's Wave Function Equation
Lavelle has said in lecture that we won't be doing any actual calculations using Schrodinger's Wave Function in this class, thankfully.
