Midterm

Postby DArcy Perlman 1C » Sun Oct 17, 2021 11:40 pm

This is just a general question for the midterm- I tried to look and see if anyone else asked this but didn't see it anywhere. I know that the midterm isn't open book, but I heard that we are allowed to have a cheat sheet. Is this a cheat sheet that we make on our own or do we get the cheat sheet from Dr. Lavelle or a TA?

Hi. I don't think we're allowed to have a cheat sheet, but we are allowed to bring a printed out copy of the constants and equations sheet that Dr. Lavelle posted on his site. It should have a majority of the formulas and equations we should need. I would recommend bringing a printed out copy of the periodic table too for reference.

Printed copy of the equations and formulas, printed copy of periodic table, scratch paper, and a scientific calculator.

From what I understand, we are only allowed to use a printed copy of the equations sheet and periodic table from Dr. Lavelle's website, a scientific calculator, and scratch paper during the midterm.

Dr. Lavelle has the links to the Equations and Constants sheet as well as the periodic table on his website - those are the only cheat sheets we are allowed on the midterm :)

I believe that we are not allowed any cheat sheets; however, there is a provided equation sheet on the class website which I think we are allowed to print out and bring in for the exam. Hope this helps.

If by "cheat sheet" you're referring to Lavelle's equation and constant sheet, you could totally use that. It would also be good to start memorizing some of those equations just so you would not have to get stuck at any one problem during the midterm. Some other things you might want to memorize or print out are some unit conversions, a periodic table, and the energy levels for the Balmer and Lyman series.

My TA called it a cheat sheet but it sounds like it is really just the equations, constants, and periodic table from the website as well as a scientific calc and some scratch paper.

I believe we are allowed to bring Dr. Lavelle's constants and equations sheet, the periodic table, and scratch paper, in which we will be turning in after the exam.

You are only allowed to bring the designated equation sheet and periodic table. Scratch paper you use, in addition to the equation sheet and periodic table will be collected by the TA, and shredded. TA’s will look at your sheets prior to the exam to ensure no one has extra equations on it.

Hi, I think the cheat sheet that you are referring to is the constants and equations sheet, which is provided by Professor Lavelle. We can also bring a copy of the periodic table.
