Achieve #21

Postby Michelle Ramirez 3A » Sun Oct 29, 2023 9:21 pm

Hi, I don't understand how to solve this problem? I understand how to get n, l, ml and the spin and stuff but how does it apply when asked how many electrons in a atom. This is the question.

How many electrons in this atom can have this set of quantum numbers?
n=3
n=4, l=1
n=6,l=2, ml=-1

Yeah, so basically for every value of ml it can hold 2 electrons. So if ml = 1, 2, -1, it doesn't particularly make a difference it's always going to be 2 electrons. Hope this helps.
