Amount of Electrons

Postby nelms6678 » Fri Dec 08, 2017 11:32 pm

How many electrons in an atom can have the quantum numbers:
n=4, l=2, ml=+1, ms=+1/2

These quantum numbers represent the subshell 4d, so would it be 10 electrons ?

Only one electron can have that exact set of 4 quantum numbers, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that is how it is with any set of 4 specific quantum numbers/

With this set, you are describing one electron that that 4th shell since you designated every quantum number. The fact that you said the spin was +1/2 is in reference to one electron

With that set, it is definitely only one electron with that set of quantum numbers. Four numbers are always required to describe one specific electron.

These numbers respond to a single electron. Think of it like an ID number each electron has its unique set of quantum numbers.

going off of these ideas can someone clarify me which other electrons could exist?
if the given electron is n=4, l=2, m=1, ms=+1/2
there could be a n=4 l=2 ml=1 ms = -1/2? and these would be paired?
and there could be a n=4 l=2 ml=-1 ms=1/2 and this would be parallel to the original?
want to make sure I'm on the right track

No two electrons can have the exact same four quantum numbers.
