How many electrons with given quantum numbers including ml

Postby Fenared Ortiz 3K » Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:52 am

If a question asks how many electrons can there be with the given quantum numbers and they included a ml number is it always going to be on 2? Im assuming this because of the spin number but im not sure if this is correct.

I believe it will always be 2 unless a specific spin number is included or if a principle/rule is violated.

Yes it will always be 2 because the most number indicates a specific orbital, and all orbitals have 2 electrons

To add on, if we are also given the spin quantum number, which can either be + or - 1/2, then only one electron can correspond to that because in each orbital one electron has +1/2 spin while the other one has -1/2 spin.
